The Pit: The Boardgame

Game Pieces

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Pit: The Board Game brought the roguelike survival loop of Sword of the Stars: The Pit to the tabletop as a cooperative science-fiction dungeon crawler. Players take command of a SolForce team sent into The Pit, an alien super-laboratory filled with dangerous experiments, strange technology, hostile creatures, and the constant pressure of dwindling supplies.

Designed for one to four players, the game translates the feel of the original video game into a board game built around exploration, risk, equipment, and survival. Each run into The Pit is shaped by randomized rooms, monster decks, item decks, dice-driven combat, character abilities, and the escalating threat of each deeper floor. Like the digital game, success depends on managing resources as much as winning fights: food, ammunition, health, equipment, and timing all matter as the team pushes farther into the facility.

The result is a tabletop adaptation that keeps the humour, danger, loot, and replayability of the Sword of the Stars universe while giving players a physical box full of cards, miniatures, dice, and systems to manage together. It was one of Kerberos Productions’ major steps into tabletop publishing, alongside other board game projects based on the studio’s original science-fiction worlds.

My work on the project was on the production and publishing side: supporting crowdfunding, coordinating development materials, helping with manufacturing and fulfillment planning, and contributing to the practical work needed to move the game from prototype and campaign assets toward a finished tabletop product. As with many Kerberos projects, that meant helping bridge creative, logistical, and business needs so the final game could reach players.

“Solid game. The game flows really well and offers a lot of replay value. This game works well solo too. I think this one will hit the table often.”
